New Green Tax Hike: Suzuki Alto, Cultus, Swift Prices Revised in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: In line with the 2025–26 federal budget, the Government of Pakistan has introduced a new 1% Green Tax on petrol, diesel, and most hybrid vehicles. As a result, car prices—especially popular models like Suzuki Alto, Cultus, and Swift—are set to rise slightly due to this tax.

The Green Tax is part of the government’s push to promote environmentally friendly transportation. It applies to all non-electric vehicles, including most hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs). However, fully electric vehicles (EVs) and plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs) that offer at least 50 km of electric-only range are exempt from the tax.

Who Is Exempt from the Green Tax?

Only two categories of vehicles are exempt:

  • Fully Electric Vehicles (EVs)
  • Plug-in Hybrid Vehicles (PHEVs) that can drive 50 km or more on electric power alone

This means that standard HEVs (Hybrid Electric Vehicles) do not qualify for exemption and will be taxed. This includes popular models like:

  • Toyota Corolla Cross
  • Haval H6 Hybrid
  • Jolion Hybrid
  • Kia Sportage Hybrid
  • Hyundai Elantra Hybrid

Why This Matters

While the tax amount is relatively small, it reflects the government’s focus on clean energy and environmental sustainability. However, it may also make vehicles slightly more expensive for buyers, particularly in the hybrid and petrol segments.
