Another Major Oil and Gas Reserve Discovered in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

“Pakistan has made another significant discovery of oil and gas, offering a ray of hope as the country struggles with energy shortages and economic pressure.” The latest reserves have been discovered in the Karak district, located in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province.
According to official sources, this discovery was made from the Makarori Deep-3 well, located within the Tal Block, which has proven to be a productive area for previous energy discoveries as well.
Daily Output Reported
Authorities have confirmed that the new well is currently producing 2,112 barrels of crude oil per day. This level of output is considered a strong addition to the country’s local energy production.
Experts believe this discovery could help reduce reliance on imported energy, lower the pressure on the national budget, and improve domestic fuel availability.

History of Recent Discoveries
This is not the first time Pakistan has found new reserves in recent years. In 2024, oil and gas were discovered in:
- North Waziristan (also in KP)
- Tando Allahyar (Sindh)
- Khairpur (Sindh)
- Other various regions across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
These areas are now actively producing oil and gas, contributing to national supply.
Significance of the Karak Discovery
The Karak region has already been known for its rich underground energy potential. With this latest find, energy experts are optimistic about further exploration opportunities in the region.
This discovery is especially important given Pakistan’s widening energy gap and its heavy dependence on imports. It is hoped that these new reserves will help meet growing local demand and stabilize fuel prices.
Future Outlook
Government officials and energy companies are expected to continue exploration and drilling in surrounding areas. With better planning, technology, and investment, such discoveries may play a key role in strengthening Pakistan’s energy sector and boosting its economy.
